What’s the Best Budget Setup for Gaming Headsets and Mics?

I'm trying to figure out what kind of setup I should go for regarding gaming headsets and microphones. Every time someone asks for headset recommendations, they usually get told that all-in-one headsets are overpriced garbage, suggesting instead to buy separate headphones and a mic. I tried this with a lapel mic and earbuds, and it was really annoying managing all the cables and placements. I've heard that a desk mic like a Blue Yeti might work better, but that's out of my budget. I'm looking for a decent mic and headphone combo for around £100, maybe stretching to £120 for better quality. Does anyone have any practical low-budget suggestions for a mic that's better than a lapel but not aimed at content creation? If not, are there decent all-in-one headsets that don't suck in the £40-£60 range? Thanks for any help!

For audio quality, you can't go wrong with Sennheiser—it has a solid reputation for good sound. Something like their HD560S model might be exactly what you're looking for, though it's just headphones, so you'd need a mic of some sort. Just keep in mind open headphones let sound in and out, so they’re not great if you’re in a noisy environment.

Definitely looking for something budget-friendly! If it’s going to break my bank, it’s probably off the table. Just trying to find the best lower-end options.

If you're not into desk mics, you might want to look at getting an Antlion Modmic which can clip onto regular headphones. Just be aware it's going to eat into your budget. You could find decent hi-fi headphones for around £50-60 and possibly grab a mic around the same price, but you'd need to do some digging to find good options that fit your needs.

Yeah, that Modmic seems pricey for just chatting. I'm really just looking for something lower-cost than that and not as bad as a lapel mic.

You might want to check out the Blue Snowball if you're looking for something like a budget version of the Yeti. It’s not too spendy and could do a decent job for chat. For gaming headsets, though, you’re likely best off sticking with regular gaming headsets at your budget. A quick look at SoundGuys could offer some good reviews on mics in your price range.

Thanks for the tip! I appreciate the honesty and will definitely check out those reviews.

I've had my HyperX Cloud headset for about 7-8 years now, and they still work great! They're some of the longest-lasting audio gear I've ever owned. If you're okay with a wired option, you might want to give them a try. Just make sure to check if the newer models still have that quality.

Good to hear! I’m not expecting top-tier audiophile levels, but as long as they’re decent, I’ll consider them. Wondering how the latest Cloud models hold up.
