What’s the best way to back up files from my broken Linux laptop?

My Linux laptop is still functional but has a huge scratch on the screen, making it hard to see anything. I need to back up some important files but want to transfer them to my Windows 10 PC without relying too much on the damaged laptop. Is there an easy way to do this?

If you've got SSH running on your laptop, you can remotely access it and transfer your files to an external drive that way. Try checking that first.

If the hard drive itself isn’t soldered onto the motherboard, consider removing it and putting it into an external USB case. This way, you can access all your data directly on your Windows PC. Just a heads-up: you might need something like Windows Subsystem for Linux or a third-party tool to read the Linux file system on Windows.

I actually still want to return the laptop, so taking the drive out completely isn't really an option.
