Which CPU Should I Choose for My PC Build? Ryzen vs. Intel

I'm in the process of building a PC and need some advice on CPU choices. As an architect, I plan to use software like Revit, Lumion, SketchUp, V-Ray, and Twinmotion. I've already chosen the GPU, which is the 5070, but I'm torn between Ryzen and Intel CPUs. The Ryzen 7 7800X 3D and Ryzen 7 9900X have fewer cores than the Intel i7-14K, and I'm not sure which would be the better option for both work and gaming.

You should consider that both Lumion and V-Ray generally perform well with 6 to 8 cores. So if you’re leaning towards a 12-core CPU like the 9900X, that should definitely cover your needs.

So a 12-core CPU will definitely be enough, right?

I’d say go for the Ryzen 7800X 3D, especially for gaming—its L3 cache really shines there. For design work, it really depends on how many cores your programs take advantage of; for example, SketchUp mainly uses one core, but I need to look into how many Lumion and V-Ray can utilize.

I’d recommend a non-X3D CPU for higher clock speeds, as that’ll give you better single-core performance for modeling tasks. Plus, having more than 8 cores (like the 9900X with 12 cores and 24 threads) will really speed up your rendering times!

That’s exactly what I was thinking! Just worried if 12 cores will compete with Intel’s 20-core options.
