Hey everyone! I've been using Linux for about 1 to 2 months now and have already tried several distros like Arch with Hyprland, Fedora with GNOME, and openSUSE, but nothing seems to fit me just right. My laptop started lagging when I added some GNOME extensions, so I'm looking for something that's quick and lightweight. Right now, I'm considering switching to Ubuntu (possibly with a minimal desktop setup) or Arch with KDE. I could really use some advice on which distro might be the best fit for me! My laptop specs are HP 250 G10 with an Intel Core i5-1334U, integrated graphics, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD.

What do you mainly plan to do with your Linux setup? Different distros excel at different tasks!
Try using the distro selection page from the wiki! It might give you some personalized options that fit your needs. Also, remember to back things up regularly and maybe try out some distros in a virtual machine before committing. You don’t want to dive in without testing first!
It seems like what you're really after is a good desktop environment rather than just a distro. I noticed you haven't looked into Debian yet—it's a classic choice! You can choose from a bunch of desktop environments during installation like Cinnamon, KDE, XFCE, and more. Just be careful about installing too many at once! Focus on finding a desktop environment you really like. If Debian doesn’t work out, consider a distro that fully supports your chosen environment. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely check out Debian and see what desktop environments might work for me.
Totally agree! I went through several distros too, but I found tailoring my desktop environment really improved my experience.
I mainly need something for daily use, and I'm also trying to develop games using Unity and build apps with JS and Rust.
