Why Am I Losing FPS After Switching From Ryzen 5 7500F to Intel i5 12600K?

Hey everyone! I'm currently working with a Gigabyte B650 Eagle motherboard and I have a Ryzen 5 7500F CPU paired with 32GB of DDR5 RAM (2x16GB) running at 6000MHz from Corsair Vengeance, plus a Gigabyte RTX 4070 Super Windforce GPU. I mainly play CS2 on a 280Hz 1080p monitor. With this setup, I usually get between 240 to 480 FPS depending on the map, although I've noticed some crazy FPS drops in CS2. Recently, I decided to give an Intel i5 12600K a shot along with a Z790 Aorus Elite AX WiFi 7 motherboard. However, I'm seeing a drop of over 100 FPS on most maps, and that doesn't seem right to me since I thought the i5 would outperform the Ryzen 5. Could it be that I've missed some motherboard tweaks, or is there something I should consider? Also, I couldn't get the RAM speed to 6000MHz with the i5—5600MHz seems to be the max without crashing. Does that really make a significant difference? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Switching CPUs usually does require some tweaks, especially with new motherboards. Did you have the M.2 drive set up correctly once you switched? Sometimes, just moving drives around can affect performance if the settings aren’t optimized. And about the RAM speed—400MHz difference can play a role in gaming performance, especially in CPU-intensive titles. You might want to try tweaking BIOS settings to see if you can stabilize the 6000MHz. Good luck!

Thanks, I'll definitely check out the M.2 settings! I'm also gonna give the BIOS another shot for the RAM speeds.

Honestly, it sounds like the Ryzen 5 7500F just edges out the i5 12600K in your case, especially for CS2. If you were looking for an upgrade, you might have been better off with a newer Ryzen 9 or another Ryzen CPU on a later gen. Plus, you mentioned some issues with RAM timing; have you tried doing a clean install of Windows on the new setup? Sometimes that can help with performance. Also, making sure your RAM is running at the right XMP settings can have a noticeable impact too!

Yeah, it's always a good idea to check those timings and settings. You might want to dive into your BIOS and see if any XMP profiles are available or if there are any manual settings you can adjust.
