Why does my audio quality drop when I start a game?

I'm having this frustrating issue where the audio quality on my PC takes a nosedive as soon as I launch any game. I wanted to vibe to some music while I play, but it sounds really crispy and low quality. It's not just the music either; the game's audio is affected too. Can anyone explain why this happens?

I've had similar issues with Bluetooth headphones. If your microphone is set to the same device as your output, it often switches to a lower quality 'Hands-free' mode. Try selecting a different microphone and restart your game—that should help!

Wow, I didn't know that! I'll have to check my settings next time I game.

I faced the same problem and I don't use the mic on my wireless headphones. What worked for me was disabling the microphone; after that, the audio went back to normal.

I've learned a lot from this discussion. Also, if you're having issues specifically with wireless headphones, try playing without them or using wired ones to see if the quality improves.

Do you happen to be using wireless headphones? That could be a factor in the audio drop in quality.
