Why is my gaming laptop struggling with emulators after running fine for months?

I bought a gaming laptop for around $1000 and downloaded some emulators last year. Everything was working smoothly with no frame drops or lag. However, after trying other games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, and GTA, I followed some tips to boost performance in those games. Now, when I try to run my emulators, I'm experiencing significant frame drops and poor performance, something I didn't face three months ago. Could anyone explain what might have changed and how I can fix this?

Make sure to check your laptop's temperatures with a monitoring tool like OHWMonitor. If your fans are really loud, it could be a sign of overheating.

Fans sound normal... Just don’t get why emulators used to run perfectly.

It’s possible that your laptop might be defaulting to integrated graphics instead of your dedicated GPU for the emulators. This can happen sometimes after tweaks you make for other games.

Got it! How can I actually switch that?

Emulation typically demands more from your laptop than running the original games. It’s faking all that hardware, and it might just be that your system got strained from those other games.

That makes sense, but it’s odd that it was fine before and suddenly dropped to 30 FPS, sometimes even lower.
