Why won’t my PC detect my headset microphone?

I'm having trouble getting my headset microphone to work on my PC. I've updated all the audio drivers, checked permissions, and made sure my Windows 11 OS is up to date. I even tried setting it up with Cortana, but the microphone still isn't being detected. The headphone speakers function perfectly fine, and the microphone works without a hitch on my laptop. I've gone through a bunch of suggestions in other forums and on YouTube, but nothing seems to help. Any ideas on what might be going wrong?

I had a similar issue, and it could be that your front audio jack isn’t detecting the mic anymore. Try restarting the Realtek Audio service in the Device Manager. Disabling and re-enabling it worked for me after a reinstall didn't. Just hit Win + R, type 'services', find the Realtek service and restart it. Sometimes a simple restart does the trick!

It sounds like your PC might have separate jacks for the microphone and speakers, unlike your laptop that uses a single connector. Check if your headset came with a splitter. If not, you can get a TRRS to TRS+TS splitter online pretty easily.
