Experiencing Frequent Restarts on Pop OS! – Is This Normal?

Hey everyone! So, I made the switch from Windows 11 to Pop OS! on my Lenovo Legion gaming laptop, hoping for a smoother experience since Windows was giving me a lot of trouble. And while Pop OS! has been better overall, I've started noticing that I need to restart my laptop quite often. If I don't, the system slows down a little and certain applications start throwing errors. For instance, after being on for a day or two, I've had problems with Diablo 4 crashing more frequently. Plus, sometimes ComfyUI won't start or gives strange errors after extended uptime. I've tried a few things like adjusting power settings, ensuring I'm using dedicated graphics, and turning off some unnecessary GNOME extensions, but the issue persists. I'm curious if this is a common experience with Pop OS! or Linux in general, or if there's something specific I should be looking into behind these regular restarts?

It sounds like you might be dealing with memory leaks or resource issues. I'd recommend using a monitoring tool like htop or pmemstat to keep an eye on your memory usage over time. Often, apps can leak memory, which can cause your system to become sluggish and lead to those errors you're experiencing. If you see consistent growth in memory usage, that could be a clue of where the problem lies. Also, since you're using GNOME, remember that it can be quite resource-heavy. Switching to a lighter desktop environment could help reduce your need to restart.

Yeah, it's not uncommon for certain Linux distros to need a restart every now and then, but if you're having to do it frequently, something's off. Make sure to check your system logs for any recurring errors. You can find them using the command `journalctl -b` in the terminal. It might give you a clearer picture of what's causing the crashes or issues with your programs. And just to be safe, ensure all your drivers are updated too!
