First Time Building a PC: Where Do I Start?

I'm new to building PCs and feeling a bit lost. I've mostly used laptops, but my current one is aging, and I want to get a desktop instead. I've heard that building my own PC allows for better customization and potential savings because I can buy parts individually, but I'm also worried about making mistakes, especially with components like the motherboard and BIOS (not quite sure what that is). I'm not sure how to start either—should I focus on picking out a GPU first and then find compatible parts? My budget is around $2,000, and I'd love any tips or guidance on how to start this journey. Thanks in advance!

A great way to start is by using a website like PC Part Picker. It helps you select compatible parts and alerts you if anything doesn’t fit together. One of the first decisions you'll need to make is whether to go with Intel or AMD for your CPU. AMD tends to be popular these days, especially for gaming builds. Just make sure to double-check compatibility with your motherboard!

I'm also leaning towards AMD for my CPU. The tough part for me is choosing between a high-end NVIDIA card or a high-end AMD card for my GPU.
