Help! My AMD Ryzen 5 3600 is Overheating During Gaming – What Should I Do?

I'm having a real issue with my AMD Ryzen 5 3600 overheating when I play games like PoE 2. After just about 15 minutes, the temps shoot up to 95 degrees Celsius or more! I haven't built many PCs, but I've done the usual maintenance, like cleaning the fans and replacing the thermal paste, though it doesn't seem to have helped much. I'm wondering if my cooling setup is inadequate or if the layout of my case might be causing issues. I've noticed that the heat sink feels cool to the touch, but the metal plate above my GPU gets pretty hot. Could the heat from the GPU be spiking my CPU temperature? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If your CPU is hitting 95 degrees and the heatsink is cool, that indicates a bad heat transfer from the CPU to the heatsink. Since you've already replaced the thermal paste, I'm worried there could be an issue with how the cooler is mounted. It might be worth removing the heatsink to check for proper contact. You could share pictures of the CPU and heatsink on imgur for feedback.

First off, what CPU cooler are you using? Knowing this can help figure out if you need an upgrade or just a proper setup. If the heatsink feels cool, it could mean the mounting pressure on your CPU cooler isn't right. Check if it makes good contact with the CPU; the thermal paste should leave a light imprint when you remove it.

Honestly, the GPU isn't helping since it's generating extra heat in your case, but that shouldn't cause your CPU to overheat to that extent unless there's a cooling issue. Can you share which cooler and case you have? The stock cooler should handle moderate workloads, but if your airflow is poor, it might struggle. Also, check your fan curve; is the CPU fan ramping up when temps rise?

Yeah, good call on the fan curve! Make sure it's configured to spin up quickly when you're hitting those high temps.
