How can I stop my microphone from recording PC audio?

I'm having a really frustrating issue with my headset microphone that I hope someone can help me with. When I use my headset, it picks up not only my voice but also any audio that's playing on my PC. For example, if I'm testing my mic while a YouTube video is playing, it echoes that audio along with my voice. This happens across all applications, not just one specific program. I've made sure it's not sound leakage from the headphones, and I've tried multiple troubleshooting steps, including:

- Disabling "Listen to this device" in the sound control panel.
- Turning off all sound enhancements.
- Reinstalling audio drivers and switching between High Definition Audio and Realtek drivers.
- Adjusting settings in the Realtek Audio Console for separate jacks.
- Testing with different headsets and splitters, plus a USB adapter.
- Plugging into both the motherboard and front panel.

I'm really out of options here and I'm running Windows 11, which doesn't offer much in terms of advanced settings. I don't have a standalone microphone to compare with, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried using VB-Audio Matrix? It's a program that helps manage your system audio inputs and outputs. It might show you if the mic output is somehow mixed with system audio. If you're feeling adventurous, you could also boot a Linux distro from a USB stick (like Ubuntu) to see if the problem persists there. It's a good way to determine if it's a software issue with Windows 11 or something with your hardware.

It sounds like your PC may be recognizing your headset as both an input and output device. When I tested using a different headset through separate ports, the issue stopped. Maybe something similar could work for you? Just be sure to check all the settings in the Realtek Console carefully.

Check if your headset has a "monitor" button. Some headsets allow you to listen to what the mic picks up through the headphones. If that switch is on, it might be causing the issue where it seems like it's picking up system audio. Also, if you have two headsets, try plugging one into the mic input and the other into the headphone output to see if that changes anything.
