I've come across comments online suggesting that it's pointless for front-end developers to learn Figma and that design tools should be left to the designers. As I'm aiming to become a front-end developer, I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time learning Figma. Does it actually help to know it if my focus is primarily on coding?

It’s definitely good to know your way around Figma, especially for grabbing assets and measurements. If you have a knack for design, that’s a plus too. But honestly, Figma isn’t a must-have skill for front-end devs. Just don’t prioritize it over your coding skills.
As a front-end developer, you will definitely use Figma to check designs and get the right styles. You don’t really need to create designs on Figma—let the designers handle that. But knowing how to navigate it will give you a better understanding of the whole workflow; it’s especially handy if you want to make your own sites later.
Honestly, I don’t see much point in learning Figma if you’re not working closely with design. It can be tedious and not everyone enjoys the process. I found it more useful just to check designs for dimensions rather than actually creating anything. Just focus on the coding side of things unless you really want to delve into design.
Learning is never a waste! But if you’re set on being a developer, focus on coding first. You can learn a bit of Figma if needed, especially to understand designs from your team, but dive deep into development skills first.
Haha, right? Our designers just throw random dimensions out there!
