I'm new to Linux and looking for suggestions on which distribution would work best for my system specs. Here's what I've got:
- Intel i5 650 processor
- GTX 730 GPU
- 8GB of DDR3 RAM
- 256GB SSD

I'm aiming for something light and user-friendly. Any recommendations?

How's your current setup performing? I used to run Windows 11 on a similar age laptop, and while it worked, loading times were longer. What do you mainly plan to do with your system?

I think your specs can handle Arch just fine! I’m on an i5-2400 with 4GB RAM and an R5 240, and everything runs smoothly for me on Arch. However, it’s worth noting that Arch might not be the best choice for completely new users.

True, but Arch can be quite challenging for beginners who aren't familiar with Linux yet!

You can pretty much go with any distro, though keep in mind your CPU might limit performance. I’d suggest trying Linux Mint with the XFCE desktop; it’s light and should run smoothly. You might also look into Fedora or different Ubuntu flavors for a change in desktop environments. Just watch out for the GPU drivers, as that might be a bit tricky for you. Good luck!

Have you considered MX Linux? It’s known for being lightweight and user-friendly, especially for beginners.
