I'm setting up a small home lab with two HPE microservers (a Gen10v2 and a Gen 11) along with a Synology rackstation. Instead of running Linux directly on the hardware, I'm planning to use ProxMox to manage virtual machines. One VM will mainly handle file sharing through Samba, while the other will be a learning platform for Docker projects like Immich. I've narrowed my choices for the VM operating system down to either Ubuntu LTS or OpenSUSE. I want to avoid hopping between distros, especially for the Samba setup, so I'm looking for advice from anyone with real-world experience using these options.

If you're considering Ubuntu or OpenSUSE, I'd definitely lean towards Ubuntu. However, I'm curious why you ruled out RHEL? It’s pretty solid for server management too!
I recommend going with Ubuntu LTS. Stick to the server image as it’s much lighter and faster to set up, plus you’ll find a good amount of support and resources available.

I've never used RHEL before and honestly, I'm feeling a bit worn out from switching distros.
