I recently reset my laptop and erased everything. Now, when I turn it on, it asks for someone to sign in or create a Microsoft account. I checked my Microsoft account, and the laptop is still linked there. I'm wondering if this connection changes when the buyer creates an account. When should I remove the device from my Microsoft account? I'm hesitant to do anything because I don't want to cause issues for the buyer.

You can go ahead and delete the device from your Microsoft account now, it's totally fine! The reason it's linked is that your Windows key is associated with your account, but that won't affect the buyer too much once they set their own account up.
So, if I remove it now, can the buyer still create their Microsoft account when they get the laptop?
